6160-09 City and Guilds Award in Entrant and Entry Controller for Medium Risk confined Space. The aim of this unit is to reflect the national occupational standard for controlling entry and arrangements for working in a medium risk confined space. This award covers both water and non-water industry areas. This unit is for the entry controller/top person who controls entry and arrangements for medium risk confined spaces and works within them. It includes the duties of an entry controller, pre-entry procedures, preparing to work safely, using equipment and tools safely, entry into and exit from the medium risk confined space, maintaining communications, and initiating and following emergency arrangements. Valid for: 3 years Duration: 2 Days Assessment type: Practical observation, short answer question paper Certified by: City and Guilds Pre-Requisites: A minimum age of 16 years. Course includes: • Introduction to Confined Space Legislation, Health and Safety • National Classifications • Personal protective equipment (PPE) • Monitoring equipment • Introduction to personal gas monitors • Commonly monitored gases and associated hazards • Introduction to Workplace Exposure Limits • Tripod configuration and mechanical hoists • Safe Systems of Work for Horizontal and Vertical Entry. • Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) – Escape Sets (EEBA) • Introduction to ventilation systems • Identify unsafe activity when working in Confined Spaces • Procedures for controlling entry and exiting of confined spaces • Record keeping for atmospheric quality, entry times, near misses, incidents. • Causes of emergencies • Emergency procedures • Medical considerations • Hygiene and decontamination considerations
